DGEN for PSP v1.40 Released – with WiFi Connectivity

Syn-z has updated his DGEN for PSP to version 1.40. DGEN is a Sega Genesis / Megadrive emulator for PSP. In this version, WiFi connectivity is finally added to replace the old simple IrDA function. Here is the pretty long changelog of this new version:

Ver 1.40

  • Wireless communication battle function added. Here is a simple How-to:
    • Start DGEN on the 2 PSPs you want to play on
    • Load the ROM you want to play on both of the PSPs.
      • The ROMs on both PSPs must be the same.
      • There is no ROM transfer function yet.
    • Go to Config menu, set “Comm mode” to “1P (adhoc)” on 1P, and “2P (adhoc)” on 2P. It is necessary to set this for each of your games. The settings will be saved, so you won’t have to do it again next time.
    • Both return to the game.
    • The emulator will try to connect automatically, then start the game. This takes about 5-10 seconds to complete. (don’t forget to turn on the WLan switch)
    • If one of the PSP enters the menu screen, the other one will follow.
It is possible to press X button to exit the menu and continue the wireless game.
When returned from the menu, the game state will be loaded from 1P. (You can load a state save on 1P and share it with 2P)
    • Key config and state load can be performed on both PSPs.
    • If you want to change to another ROM, just fire up the menu screen and go through the process again from the 2nd step.
    • Press L + R to terminate the communication while in the game.
Press Analog Right + Start to cut the connection in the menu screen.
    • The WLan light will not go off on v1.00 PSP after the connection is cut off, which means it cannot be completely cut off.
If you want to completely terminate the connection and reconnect, you will have to exit DGEN and start it again.
      * This is not necessary on v1.50 PSP.
    • A small part of the games may stop in the middle of the game and show a “communication error” message. Please follow the instructions on the screen if this happens.
It should be able to reconnect if you select retry.
  • Wireless explanations:
    • It is impossible to charge the PSP when the communication light is on due to the hardware design of the PSP. If the PSP encounter any problem while playing and was shut off automatically, charging will be invalid unless you take out the battery for a while and install it back.
    • It is recommended to keep all the emulation settings on both PSPs consistent when playing a WiFi game. (it may still work even if the settings are inconsistent)
However, the “CPU Core Emulation” and “Country Priority” settings will be forced to the same value on 1P.
    • The game state will be loaded synced 1P when returning from the menu screen.
Please only load state saves from 1P side.
If the game fall out of sync, you can return to menu first, then return to the game to get a re-sync.
    • The WiFi connection will be cut off when you set the PSP to sleep mode.
    • Xlink connectivity is not confirmed.
    • Functions disabled during WiFi game:
      a: All cheat codes
b: “Change CPU Emulation” in key config
    • Functions synced during WiFi game:
a: the time of returning to the menu
b: “Game Reset” in key config
c: “Turbo mode ON/OFF” in key config
d: State load in key config (also possible on 2P)
  • Simple communication function through IrDA is removed.
  • Fixed the speed adjustment when Frame skip is set to 0.
  • Fixed the button turbo not working problem when Frame skip is set to 0.
  • Fixed the problem when returning from sleep mode, the emulator will return to the menu screen.
  • Added exit function (Exit to the PSP main menu) in the menu.
(Press Analog Right + Start to perform)
