Did you know that Nintendo actually started development on a new handheld, but eventually scrapped it? President Satoru Iwata revealed this himself in an interview with CNBC.

According to his revelation, the company did have another handheld gaming system already completed in the past three years. However, they decided not to release it. Said Iwata:

In the history of Nintendo, there are several such examples. But when we are launching new hardware, the most important thing is to sustain the momentum. If introducing new hardware won’t do anything to do that, well…”

He did not explain further as to why the project was canceled, or even what it was supposed to be called.
