Digg, Technorati, flickr, YouTube stats on PS3 and Wii
Another new day, another new Console Wars post. But wait. Is this really a Console Wars post? Before we get ahead of ourselves here, we’d like to say that while the information below could be flame bait, think twice before you leap into the fray. These are hard facts; objective data. Nothing is subjective. So, there’s nothing to argue about, right? You can’t argue about the numbers. They’re there for everyone to see in the following sites. You can check them for yourselves. Now for the brunt of the matter.
Fukaoi was able to dish out the statistics of the PS3 and Wii on the internet. Y’know, how much bandwidth, how much space, how much about the console is feeding into the web. They were able to compare (not pit against each other) the number of Diggs, Technorati blog entries, flickr photos, and YouTube videos of or relating to the Wii and the PS3.
Here are the results:
- 41,446 Wii Diggs – 36,478 PS3 Diggs
- 230,803 Wii Technorati blog entries – 334,285 PS3 Technorati blog entries
- 4,865 Wii flickr photos – 3,583 PS3 flickr photos
- 8,382 Wii YouTube videos – 6,787 PS3 YouTube videos
Now, do these results state that one console is better than the other? Nope. Do these results say that more people like this console instead of that? Nope. Do these results, in any way, indicate that this console will sell better than that? Nope.
What these results only show are figures (as of Nov 06, 2006, 18:54:20 +0900) of where the PS3 and Wii stand in the internet. These figures can be interpreted in a million ways, and there could be a lot of reasons why this console has a higher result than the other one. Make what you will of these results. All that we’re doing is reporting the statistics. And these are what they are.
Here’s something else you might want to know as well. They had to use certain parameters to calculate for these results. How did they do it? Check these out:
- Digg = a total of ((search: all stories, from all time, sort by most diggs) top 15)
- Technorati = search results from all blogs with any authority in all languages
- flickr = search results from everyone’s photos tags only
- YouTube = search results from all videos
- Query is “wii” and “ps3” (not playstation3)
Now, if we were to change just the slightest thing here, add a few more parameters there, surely, the results from above will change. The results are then reduced to variables that can change depending on the parameters. And so, the above results can’t be any real basis to support a claim that one console is better than the other. Interesting, huh?
Oh, and notice that not once did we use the word “versus” in this article. Hence, not a Console Wars post.
