Disney Brings Pirates to Your Cell Phone

The Disney Corporation’s Hollywood-based mobile publishing division announced the release of a version of the MMO game, Pirates of The Caribbean for mobile handsets. This version will offer MMO play in real time, enabling players to join in on their cell phones. True to form, Disney will be cross-marketing the game with a scheduled July release at the same time their latest film production, Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest comes out in theatres. A beta version of the game is available currently. Meanwhile, Disney is working with Floodgate Entertainment to develop the final release.

Disney has another MMORPG in the works, based on the upcoming movie sequel, which they plan to release in 2007.

(Incidentally, in case you’re wondering how huge a dead man might be in order that his chest would accommodate 15 men standing it – the fact is that the “Dead Man’s Chest” is actually an island in the British West Indies, and is today a national park.
