Does Wii Have Iffy Controls?
No doubt about it, Nintendo has made quite an impression with the Wii. The said console has taken quite a different direction from other next-gen consoles: instead of beefing up its specs to eye-popping magnanimity, it features motion sensing controls, giving a whole new spin to home entertainment.
This innovation has gotten a lot of people excited, but some were pretty disappointed too. You see, expectations are really high for the Wii, and when some people tried the controllers out during the September 14 press con, they noticed a few boo-boos that got them disturbed.
Our source reported that the Wii cursor was somewhat shaky when he gave the controllers a test-drive. Brian Crecente from Kotaku also mentioned that the controls were rather shaky as well and he had a hard time playing Red Steel because he couldn’t pinpoint exactly where was he aiming. Gamespy was also quoted about the difficulty with the Wiimote controls in Trauma Center: Second Opinion: “cutting and stitching [is] difficult with remote.”
Our source is left wondering how third part devs will manage to refine the controls to utmost precision. Although he didn’t question first party titles (he even quoted Gamespy saying that “the game handles better than expected on the Wii hardware” on Marvel: Ultimate Alliance), there was still some lingering doubt regarding the efficiency of the Wii’s controller.
But he won’t be left wondering so long, and we won’t be either. When the Wii ships to our doorstep, we’ll know whether the Wii’s controller’s faulty or not.
