Don’t listen to rumors: Square-Enix supports Virtual Console

Why must you bedevil us with rumors so?We don’t know if it’s in the intricacies of translating from Japanese or what, but Gamefront.de cites Japanese mag Game Lab for bringing up this rumor. The rumor goes that Square Enix has no plans of publishing games on the Virtual Console as of the moment. That same rumor was noticed by the boys and girls of GoNintendo, who, possessing positive proof that Squeenix is not squeamish about the VC, proceeded to debunk the said rumor.

  1. Squeenix was one of the many companies announced to support the VC
  2. An October 2006 interview of GoNintendo with Koichi Ishii reiterates Squeenix’s support for the Virtual Console. Only thing is, they’re not sure what games to bring to the VC.

Perhaps #2 now means a letter-writing campaign from fans begging that their fave Square/Enix titles be resurrected. It also means that Squeenix is definitely behind the Virtual Console, despite not having any title so far. Besides, since Squeenix is so active on the GBA and DS, it would be kind of ridiculous to consider that they’d be, uh, sidelining the Wii. And consider what Ishii himself said last year: “It’d be a shame if developers only transferred existing games to this system. They’ve got to envision a more creative route then buckle up for a wild ride.”

Knowing Square Enix, it’s bound to be wild indeed. Rumor shelved.
