Double Dribble out for Virtual Console in Europe and Australia
This week’s Virtual Console update for the regions of Europe and Australia brings us to the hard court of times long past, where speech and cutscenes in videogames were considered to be “revolutionary” and “next-gen”. Yes, this is Konami‘s first foray into the world of Basketball, Double Dribble, and it’s now available for download.
Check out and see if Double Dribble is worth your Wii Points in the full article.
This week’s Virtual Console update for Europe and Australia may seem a bit slim on the pickings, but it’s still definitely worth your Wii Points. Presenting one of the first games ever to not only give a surprisingly-accurate basketball experience, but also featured speech and cutscenes – Konami‘s Double Dribble for the Nintendo Entertainment System and now for the Wii. Yes!
Fans would be glad to know that the game is still pretty much intact, even in its Virtual Console form. The title screen still gleefully tells you that you are in fact playing Double Dribble and will also announce the requisite jump ball sections during play. Not only that, but the all-too-famous cutscenes of a player outrageously dunking the ball is still present which makes this game not only a must-download, but also an awesome blast to the past.
If you’re surprised as to why there’s only one Virtual Console title new this week, Nintendo offers the explanation that a title that was supposed to be announced along with Double Dribble was found to be incompatible with certain TVs when using a Component AV Cable. So they decided to delay the release of that title until they could find a way around that particular obstacle.
In any case, certainly a great piece of retrogaming joy from Nintendo and Konami. Updates as we get them!
