Dragon Quest Swords: New screenshots

The uber-popular Dragon Quest franchise is finally making its way to Nintendo’s next gen Wii video game console courtesy of Square Enix‘s upcoming title, Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors. Yeah, the title’s a bit of a handful, but the game is definitely looking pretty good, as you can see from the Famitsu screenshots below.

Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors is a departure from the usual gameplay of other Dragon Quest titles. Instead, it takes its cue from 2003’s Kenshin Dragon Quest, a stand-alone title which had players swing a sword at the television screen in order to take out their enemies. Through the use of the Wiimote, players will be able to replicate the game’s sword peripheral-based action in Dragon Quest Swords.

A North American release for Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors has yet to be announced, but the game is currently slated to come out in Japan on July 12.
