DragonMedia Player v0.06 Alpha – OGG Vorbis in the house

DragonMedia Player v0.06 Alpha - Image 1Author DragonMinded pushes the Alpha release of DragonMedia Player up a notch, though it has little to do with the major features promised in a previous coverage. If only a slight step in the right direction, DragonMedia Player v0.06 Alpha for the Nintendo Wii is certifiably capable of more audio playback, thanks to new support for the OGG Vorbis coder-decoder. More in store if you sneak away to the full story.

There may be no video support added yet, but DragonMedia Player version 0.06 Alpha is now capable of playing back audio tracks encoded in the OGG Vorbis codec. Homebrew developer DragonMinded also pressed a few wrinkles from the Nintendo Wii homebrew media player application, keeping it safe from copyright infringement and software-induced user error.

The author also noted that there have been changes to the seek bar’s mechanics upon playback of non-seekable tracks: they will no longer allow seeking by pressing the PLUS and MINUS buttons on the seek bar while playing these formats.

Also, the background image will adjust together with the whole screen, instead of remaining at the default spot. Other changes include:

  • Added utf-8 support: (including japanese/chinese if you select a proper font)
  • Changed default font to Deja Vu (no licensing issues)

To upgrade to the new version, just clear away the previous version and install the download archives contents into a single directory on your Homebrew Channel SD. Media controls can be referred to at the source link provided below. Updates as we get them.
