DS Lite held back, and even then, US will only see white…

It seems an insider for the GoNintendo network has uncovered details that the DS Lite will only be available in White for US customers. Also coming to light it seems the North American launch of the unit will be June This is based on information uncovered from a speculative conversation:

“I talked to my *DELETED* and also talked with an *DELETED* and it turns out that JUNE will be the month of the DS LITE launch in north america. An interesting fact about the DS Lite is that north America will only get to see the white version. plans about bringing in the dark blue are still iffy, but it seems like the ice blue will not make it here to the west during the June launch.”

So this means that there wont be a joint launch with Mario on May 21st, or non of the other colours available which currently stand at Navy Blue, White and Ice Blue. The unit in Japan is doing very well, and as we’ve already reported prices for second hand ones are very little short of the new price, and many shops may begin jacking up the price to $250 from $144. Another way of judging how well an electronic is doing is by seeing its online auction price, which currently stands at up to $280. Is this delay and lack of colours down to the shortage in Japan? Are Nintendo diverting production to the extra 700’000 units they’re dumping in their most successful market? We’ll just have to find out.
