DS Lite Still Sought After by Japanese

DS LiteWeek after week, almost two hundred thousand units of the DS Lite and DS are sold to Japanese consumers. You’d think that’d be enough, right? Nope. It seems only 44% of those interested in a DS Lite have been able to buy one since its launch on March 2nd. 39% of those interested are still looking for the elusive handheld. What about the other 16%, you ask? They’ve been looking so long that they’ve basically given up on ever finding one! Trying to meet this demand, Nintendo is stepping up production of the DS Lite to 2 million per month. They hope to manufacture 10 million units by the end of the year. However, many of those units will be shipped to other parts of the world. Needless to say, Nintendo is very happy with how it’s doing in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Later this week, we will have our first monthly Japan sales report which should give a good picture of how the situation in Japan is right now. It’ll be getting even more hectic later this year when Nintendo introduces some new DS Lite colours!
