Dually-shocking: even Karakker confused over Emmy mix-up
While it has been confirmed that the Emmy actually went to the DualShock (and not the SIXAXIS), a lot of people are still confused with what really happened. Heck, even SCEA PR honcho David Karraker himself seems to be befuddled with the whole hoopla. Here’s how he explains it:
I accepted the award myself and all they said was that the award was for ‘technological innovation for device controller’ … but looking back, they never really did say for which one.
To make matters even more confusing, Karraker states that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS – the guys who awarded Sony the Emmy) even approved Sony’s original announcement of receiving the award for the SIXAXIS.
In short, aside from being awarded ambiguously for something he wasn’t sure of, Sony also got the go signal from NATAS to tell the world about winning an Emmy for the SIXAXIS. These are probably the dual shockers that caused the whole misunderstanding and eventual mix-up.
In any case, hey!, that’s cleared up now (or at least, we’d like to think it is). Despite the whole mix-up, the fact remains that Sony won an award. And so, we’re giving some them some brownie points: congrats with the DualShock Emmy, Sony!
