E3 2008: Chrono Trigger’s controls outlined, single screen option available
If you’re curious as to how Chrono Trigger will play on the DS, then consider your questions answered: Square Enix just announced the game’s controls (and even used a chart to outline them), as well as a nifty extra that will please the game’s purists. More in the full article.
Nintendo just recently gave out some details on how Chrono Trigger will turn out on the DS, and it’s mostly about how the game is controlled using the Nintendo DS’s touch screen interface and buttons. Here’s what Nintendo outlined during the Chrono Trigger press con in E3:
- Select – Not used
- Start – Display pause Menu
- L/R – Change menu pages and categories, escape from battle (holding R+L)
- X – Open Menu
- A – Talk, examine, confirm
- Y – Change message window position
- B – Dash (use with control pad), cancel
- Touch screen – Touch the screen to move the character, select menu items
- D-pad – Move the character/cursor
As you can see, you have two options when it comes to playing Chrono Trigger: Touch screen or the traditional use of buttons. However, that’s not the only major option that’s available to players.
According to a Square Enix representative, a single-screen version of the game – yes, just like the original SNES game – will be available once the game gets shipped. Good for Chrono Trigger purists who’d like to play the game as it was meant to be played in its heyday.
