Tretton explains further right after the jump.
Those of you wondering if Konami‘s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be jumping on the same cross-platform bandwagon as Final Fantasy 13, have no fear – the answer is a solid and resounding “no”. Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), mentioned that it would be “impossible” for other consoles to handle MGS4‘s technical demands.
Tretton further explained that the PlayStation 3’s Blu-ray features contributed to a large part of what sets the console apart from others. Speaking to the assembled press at the platform holder’s conference at the E3 event, he was quoted having said this:
PS3 offers an experience for both gamers and developers no other console can match. Metal Gear Solid is not only exclusive on PS3 – it’s only possible on PS3, thanks in part to Blu-ray.
He also attributed the success of the Blu-ray format with the PS3 and mentioned that Blu-ray is now “poised to return the favor”. However, this statement doesn’t necessarily squash the previous rumors that the Metal Gear Solid series may still get an appearance on the Xbox Live Arcade service. We’ll be sure keep our eyes open for new updates as we get them.
