E3: Imagine on DS, girls playing video games

 

Looks like Ubisoft‘s trying to pull in the minority of the gaming market: they have just announced a series of games called Imagine for the Nintendo DS targetted for girls. Helene Juguet, senior director of marketing for Ubisoft, has this to say for this new series:

Ubisoft is excited to finally offer young girls a line of games that give them the chance to explore their hobbies and interests […] Our consumer research revealed that the young girls’ market has been relatively overlooked. We are happy to introduce a variety of titles relevant to what girls in this age group have indicated they are most interested in.

For the guys who are also into those kinds of games, or even those who aren’t, don’t feel alienated. It’s not like girls playing games targetted for the testosterone-inclined are out of the ordinary.

Here’s a little quickie for the new series:

• Imagine Fashion Designer – “The Devil Wears Prada” on the DS! Well, not really. You just get to create your own line of fashion designs and direct photo shoots. Online gameplay lets you share your designs.
• Imagine Animal Doctor – You play a veterinarian. Take care of your quadruped pals and expand your hospital.
• Imagine Babyz – Take a walk in your parents’ shoes as you care for your own baby. You’ll be able to take photos and exchange tips and clothing online.
• Imagine Master Chef – The concept is similar to Cooking Mama. Create your own recipes from all over the world with customized kitchen tools.
• Imagine Figure Skater – Wanna be a figure skater? It’s not that simple. Strike a balance between your dreams, your school and your friends as you jump and spin to fame and glory.

All of the games except Imagine Figure Skater will be released this October. Figure Skater will be released in early 2008.
