E3 update: gameplay mechanics of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
Naughty Dog‘s upcoming next-gen title, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (PS3), is definitely shaping up to be a top-class action adventure. Refined over-the-shoulder gunplay with sophisticated covering mechanics, outstanding hand-to-hand combat that promises dynamic animation, and topnotch traversal featuring plenty of platforming and puzzles; we’ve lost track of the many good things we could say.
For everything else we’ve missed, here’s SCEA line producer Sam Thompson giving us a few more details on the game that could possibly set the bar higher for its genre. It’s a complete package of 40% combat, 30% traversal and exploration, and 30% puzzle solving – what more can you ask for?
One of the cool concepts he mentioned is how the game is set to progress in a linear fashion to give the interactive action movie feel, yet different approaches are available. Puzzles can be solved in different ways and there’s more than one path for moving from one point to another, he said.
Thompson stressed out that while the game wants to be like a big budget action movie, players will still be given enough freedom as opposed to just watching a film. In other words, it’s all up to you how Nathan Drake does business. Hear it from the man himself, here’s Sam Thompson.
