For those of us keeping tabs of the Sony E3 2007 Press Conference, here’s an update about what could be the biggest draw for the PlayStation 3 thus far, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. We get you the skinny on what Hideo Kojima himself revealed about the game that features a battle-hardened and battle-wizened Solid Snake.

It’s official – Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is going to be the last Metal Gear Solid title that Hideo Kojima will be working on, with the game serving as the big finish in the already legendary series. Kojima’s statement, verbatim:

The game is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month — and while I’ve been on the series for 20 years, this game will be the grand finale for the series. The story of Snake will end and this will be my last take on this series. All the mysteries, plotlines, and other story points will be revealed. I’m putting everything I have into MGS4 and today I brought it with me. What we’re showing you isn’t a trailer, it’s the game.

The trailer then plays, and we’re treated to very sweet-looking footage of Solid Snake being sent in to assassinate his arch-nemesis, Liquid Snake. We see Meryl leading an army towards Liquid, but something goes horribly wrong and the soldiers start attacking each other. Raiden comes into the scene and then starts to duke it out with Vamp in an incredible-looking fight scene. Incomparably awesome.

After the dust is settled and everyone’s picked up their jaws off the floor, the final kicker is given: Metal Gear Solid 4 will be released worldwide come early 2008, with an actual demo of the game to be featured next week in Tokyo. We can hardly wait.

This E3 is shaping up to be the most intense ever. Updates as we get them!
