E3 update: Sony phases out old PSP, no price cut for existing PSPs
With the announcement of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) slashing the price of 60GB PlayStation 3 units by US$ 100, and phasing them out to make way for PS3 80GB, PSP owners can’t help but wonder if the same will apply to the old PSP units.
With the redesigned PSP replacing the original one by September, the question of Sony applying the same strategy that they used on the phasing out of 60GB PS3 units (applying a price cut to help empty store shelves of 60GB PS3s) is quite valid.
However, Sony has no plans of granting a price cut to the existing PSP model. They are still bent on giving value, however, by way of offering the new sleek PSP core unit for only US$ 169.99, and the Daxter PSP Entertainment Pak for only US$ 199.99 – which includes a 1GB memory stick, a copy of Daxter and a UMD movie.
No word on whether or not it’ll come with FW 3.60, but one thing’s for sure: come September, the PSP hacking community will definitely be hard at work on making the PSP Slim homebrew-friendly.
