E3: Wario Ware: Smooth Moves Impressions

Wario is back on the Wii, and it’s more of what gamers love. One part Wii tech demo, one part Nintendo zaniness, all fun – that describes Wario Ware: Smooth Moves in a nutshell. The game was not about graphics in the least, but all about new and interesting ways to play with the Wiimote. Using the Wiimote specifically, players are expected to complete various 7 second long minigames. Before the start of each game, the way players are supposed to hold the controller along with a graphic to illustrate that point was shown (eg. the standard way is called ‘remote’ and you hold it as such, if your supposed to have the ‘mote on your open hand it’s called the ‘waiter’)

The mini games that we played were delightfully varied and showcased the Wiimote’s power and depth. Here are some of the games we played:

-Put the ‘mote on your head and do a squat to build your character’s legs.
-Spear an item on a fencing blade (a sabre, for the purists) using the pointed.
-Hula by placing the ‘mote on your hip and SHAKE IT BABY!
-Cut through a barrel using your elite ‘mote slicing skills.
-Get a ball into a hole by move the container (a la Monkey Ball).
-Play patty cake with a friend by pushing the ‘mote out.
-Turn the mote to a side and turn it like a key, to open up a door… but to what?
-Etch a picture with the ‘mote to bring it to life!
-Balance a broom on your hand using the Wii remote to gauge your hand tilting.
-Make a turn by holding the Wiimote as a wheel.

And more. I’ll post if I get more info!
