EA Announcing New Big Franchise On September 28?

EA: Planning to Challenge Something Big?EA’s already has some of the most well-known and largest franchises nesting under its roof – the Sim series, the Need for Speed series, the Command & Conquer series, and of course, everything with “EA Sports” tagged to it. But they may be planning something bigger. No, bigger. The latest post in the UK’s Playstation 3 Magazine (PSM3) weblog announces that “EA are announcing a brand new franchise on September 28th(ish)” that they plan to pit against “one of the biggest franchises in gaming history (belonging to a rival publisher).”

“Biggest franchises in gaming history (belonging to a rival publisher)?” We could speculate like mad, but that won’t lead to anything conclusive. We do know (checking up on other sources) that Nintendo’s Mario is the best-selling video game franchise of all time, followed by Pokemon, also owned by Nintendo. They would be likely targets in whatever EA’s throwing up to challenge them on September 28(ish). But like we said, speculating won’t lead to anything conclusive.

The coming PSM3 issue – which will be on shelves September 28 – won’t help either. The editorial team wasn’t able to squeeze in what details they had on this announcement in time. They do promise an “unrivalled” and “excluisve” report for their next issue coming out on October 26, though.

We’ll just keep our ears open come 28(ish) for any updates to confirm or deny this report.
