EA: more focus on the Wii?
Looks like Electronic Arts is set to ride the Wii bandwagon. EA CEO John Riccitello said in an investor’s meeting today that it got “on the wrong horse” when it decided to focus mainly on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360:
One of the biggest challenges, of course, was that not a lot of people anticipated the success of Nintendo that they’ve shown with their wand controller and their Wii. That got ahead of us a little more than our expectations.
The Wii has recently been getting a lot of good publicity from both financial and consumer sectors. EA enjoyed having the second largest market share for Wii last March thanks to Tiger Woods PGA Tour with a total release of six games for the Wii last fiscal year.
Although Riccitello admits this for the Wii, he does not overlook the success of the PS3 where EA released 7 titles, saying that it was the greatest investment platform last fiscal year.
