More on this in the full article.
Electronic Arts has announced that they will be releasing Battlefield Heroes this summer. Developed by DICE, the creators of both Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2142, this cartoon-style shooter will be the first title released under EA’s new Play 4 Free business model.
FPS fans can expect some pretty neat features in Battlefield Heroes including a built-in match making system and various character customization options. As for how the game will play, here’s what EA DICE Senior Producer Ben Cousins had to say about it:
We put a different twist on this Battlefield game going with the cartoon-style graphics and gameplay. ThereÂ’s something here for all types of players — be it our core Battlefield fans or casual gamers.
With the new online model, we will continually add new content to keep the game fresh and keep players engaged, while integrating player feedback in real time. As a game developer, it is such a cool new way to make games.
Although EA is technically releasing Battlefield Heroes for free, it is still expecting the game to generate money from both microtransactions and advertising. This means that players can probably expect premium content to be offered for a fee as well as some in-game advertisements.
