EA using only 20% of PS3’s muscles

Sony has been hyping the PS3’s almost supercomputer strength – we’re actually having nightmares about all the PS3s uniting and taking over the planet. But in the real world, much of that power still remains untapped.

According to Glenn Entis, EA’s Vice President and Chief Visual Officer, the PS3 ‘s complexity is making it a challenging piece of equipment to master. While he did say that underneath all that challenge lies its “tremendous potential”, Entis says it will take game developers some time to figure out how to unlock the PS3’s mythical power.

“We’ve got games coming out now where we feel we’ve hit maybe 20 per cent of the potential of PlayStation 3,” he says. “It’s going to take us a little bit of time to unleash it.” Entis admitted the PS3 was more complex than they anticipated but he said EA is confident the the PS3 will be a phenomenal games machine in the future.

So if you think the current generation of PS3 games are mind-blowing, please hold your applause. The PS3 is a giant still in deep slumber. The real deal, the ones that pack more than 20% of the PS3 power, is still to come. Maybe news that the PS3 will suffer the same fate as Sony’s other fallen star, the Betamax, may be grossly exaggerated after all.
