EA’s Wii quiz game packed with non-EA games-related questions

trivia - Image 1It’s just about time gamers wear their thinking caps. In Electronic Arts‘ new Wii quiz game, called “Smarty Pants” (working title), players can check if the gears in their brains are still well-oiled by answering about 20,000 trivia questions, most of which are UK-centric.

There are also video game trivia packed in the game, and while developers were explicitly told that they should cover only EA’s games, the developing team still went ahead and added questions from other gaming companies, such as Activision‘s Call of Duty and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.

Dan Hagerty, associate producer for the game said that the development team wanted to ask questions about games outside of Electronic Arts. He reasoned that trivia games are a sort of “protected speech”, and they can ask questions about Activision’s games (among others) as long as those questions are within reasonable bounds. “If we asked too many Call of Duty questions, Activision’s lawyers might have a problem,” Hagerty added.

With questions such as, “In the video game Halo, which of the following is not a controllable vehicle?” and, “In Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, what is the cheat code to unlock secret characters?” it’s going to be a great trivia game for those very much into video gaming. Let’s just hope that the questions will not be limited to Activision’s games but will be evenly distributed among all non-EA games mentioned in Smarty Pants.
