EEDAR estimates Prototype to outsell inFamous by 90%
Between the bad boys Alex Mercer and Cole MacGrath, who takes the cake? EEDAR weighs in and the results are a mix of official estimates and personal choices. On the official estimates, EEDAR declares Prototype (PS3, Xbox 360, or PC) as the winner, with Alex Mercer “expected” to outsell Cole MacGrath’s inFamous by a stellar 90% — that is thanks in large part to the combined sales of the game’s multiplatform releases.

On the official estimates, EEDAR declares Prototype (PS3, Xbox 360, or PC) as the winner, with Alex Mercer said to outsell Cole MacGrath’s inFamous by a stellar 90% — that is thanks in large part to the combined sales of the game’s multiplatform releases. But if we’re gonna keep the comparison fair – meaning, limited only to the PS3 sales of both titles – inFamous wins by 35 to 50% more.
EEDAR director Jesse Divinich also gave his own two cents on whether or note money given for exclusivity would balance these numbers. His answer: not necessarily.
SCEA published inFamous, so I would venture to guess they paid nothing for exclusivity. Sucker Punch, the developers, have only done PlayStation 2 and 3 titles. They are most known for the Sly Cooper series. I am sure Sucker Punch receives a lot of financial incentives to stay exclusive to Sony, which likely takes the form of higher royalty percentage points on gross sales.
Sony is not in the financial position to pay for exclusive releases at the moment, which limits exclusive releases to first-party published titles. They openly admit that they won’t pay for exclusive DLC.
The Agent, a Rockstar title, is a PS3 exclusive and I do imagine Sony is providing some support on the backend, whether that is financial support or technological support is unknown to the public. However, Rockstar is a very intrepid developer, they would do a PS3 exclusive and make it profitable just for the challenge.
And now to Divinch’s personal choice. “In an environment without chain linked fences or strewed about gardening hoses? Cole all the way.”
Are you rooting for Cole, too?
