Eidos President Bill Gardner talks about about the Wii and Lara Croft

Svelte, Lara Croft is. - Image 1Eidos head honcho Bill Gardner revealed quite a lot with what Eidos and the gang are cooking up for Lara Croft’s debut on the Wii. We’re here to give you the skinny – well, make that the svelte, when the hourglass-figured goddess of tomb raiding is concerned. 

Bill Gardner started the interview by explaining how the idea of porting Tomb Raider: Anniversary over to the Big N’s console came to be. It seems that in the past, Eidos has played a keep-away game of sorts with Ninty, for the reason that anything Eidos churns out could (and have) get buried by a Pokemon or a Super Mario release.

But a good working relationship, coupled with both companies’ interest in making good, unique games for the Nintendo Wii, got rid of all that trepidation. In fact, Bill talked about seeing and playing with the console long before anyone else got to see it, and grew amazed at the Wii’s capabilities of expanding the videogame audience beyond the hardcore gamer demographic.

For those of you worried about the game being just another rehash, fret not – the Wii’s motion-tracking capabilities have been put to good use, and Bill reassures everyone that the gameplay will indeed be a unique and fun experience for everyone. He even added that there were so many things unique about the game, players wouldn’t be able to call it a port – rather, a different game altogether.

Bill finally ended the session with a statement that should get Wii fans all riled up: Eidos is fully committed to making titles for the Wii, and that they’ll be bringing Wiimote gameplay to a good number of those titles. Certainly very, very good news for us, and we’re quite sure Shigeru’s grinning right about now. We’ll keep you updated of all and any developments.
