Eidos: PS3 will dominate the market by April next year
Game publisher Eidos Interactive is confident that Sony‘s PlayStation 3 will either be as big as the Xbox 360, or it will become the dominant home entertainment system by next year. The company is confident that by April 2008, the PS3 market will be ready for Eidos’ big game releases. Yes, it hopes to make a killing in profits.
Rob Murphy, the CFO of Eidos, has declared that the “PS3 can outstrip 360’s current installed base within a year”. Murphy went on to say that, “We have absolutely no doubt that PS3 will be a very successful platform and weÂ’re completely behind it.”
This announcement came right after the release of the company’s financial interim results for six months (ending in December 31 last year). Eidos Interactive’s parent company, the SCi Entertainment Group, showed that its revenue stands at about £74.5 million, which is up by about £ 24.4 million compared to last year. The company’s losses were lower by £ 2 million on a year on year basis which add up to about £17.9 million.
As for Eidos Interactive’s future, Murphy gave out the company’s game plan.
Ideally, we would like to have a market that is a worldwide installed base of eight to ten million PS3 units by the time we bring out our big products. But weÂ’ll have to assess how that moves. We will have some PS3 products over the coming months, but weÂ’re holding back our major top line products until this time next year.
Will Eidos’ plan pay off or backfire? We’ll have to wait and see if the company is betting on the right console to make some profit.
