Elebits
producer Shingo Mukaitoge has written a new developer diary complete with development tidbits of Elebits on the Wii and how it interfaces with the Wii hardware, along with some new screenshots to whet your appetite for the game due for a 2007 release.

As Mukaitoge is keen to point out, developing on a system that hasn’t been released – especially developing for a console which uses a completely new piece of hardware as it’s main control – isn’t an easy thing to do. But he also said that the coding similarities with the Gamecube made it a little easier for the Elebits team at Konami to do their job.

Mukaitoge describes the Wiimote as an incredible gameplay tool“, enabling gamers to feel as if they really are in the game. The developers have spent a lot of time on perfecting Elebits for use with the Wiimote and players can even twist the controller to open a door and turn on a water faucet, simulating the opening of a door as if it were real life. Re-playability appears to play a big role in this game too, with the physics engine adding many different ways to trap an Elebit, making it fun to just fool around in the levels like a free roaming game.

He also expressed an interest in the development of the Wii’s more prominent features such as the WiiConnect24, the speaker on the controller and the Wii Channels that make him believe this is going to be such a great console. Of course, he also added that there are still secrets kept by Nintendo that make up the system’s “X-factor.” Hopefully we’ll have more details on these ‘secrets’ soon, but until then we’ll leave you with the new Elebits screenshots. Enjoy!
