Overlord Dark Legend Wii - Image 1There’s a new Overlord riding out to town soon, and it’s gonna be a Wii-exclusive. Codemasters has just revealed that they are indeed working on a port of the original Xbox 360 Overlord, but this one will be overall shiny and new. Dean Scott explained more about what to expect from Overlord Dark Legend, and you can check it out at the full article.

Overlord Dark Legend Wii - Image 1Codemasters has revealed that they’re working on something new and exclusive adventure for the Wii, and it’s coming from the popoular Overlord (PC and Xbox 360) franchise.

Called Overlord Dark Legend, this game will be built from scratch courtesy of Climax Studios. So how is this gonna go exactly? Think lordship, complete with minions, the ultimate authoritarian rule.

Codemasters describes, the ‘trainee tyrant’ will “be able to take his growing pains out on the local fairy tale inhabitants as he protects his castle and lands.” Hmm… Bully: Scholarship Edition (Wii, Xbox 360) royalty-style much?

Dean Scott sat down with IGN to divulge more details on the new Overlord. He revealed that although it’s an offshoot of the original Overlord in the Xbox 360, this one will have new everything: story, characters, gameplay. Of course, what remains the same is the underlying principle – you’re the tyrant and you let your minions do the dirty work for you. It’s all for the preservation of your kingdom, after all. Tough times call for Machiavellian measures.

They also seem to be toying with the idea of coming up with the notion that there “have been a series of Overlords throughout time.” Could this mean that we could expect more ports from them in the future? We don’t know yet. But what we do know is that we have Dark Legend to focus our sights on.

This new game, according to Scott, is:

…part fairy tale, part classic fantasy, and all hilarious. Obviously, we’ve twisted the fairy tal stuff around, because it wouldn’t be an Overlord game without a load of black humor. So instead of helping Little Red Riding Hood find her grandma, you’d be helping the wolf shop for granny-friendly sauces. That’s not actually in the game, but you get the idea.

Oh, and the same minion types are still around, but they’ve of course been given an upgrade in their abilities. This port of the game, as it is built from the ground up for the Wii, will then also make full use of the Wii remote. You can pick up a minion from the group, hold him by the neck and shake him around.

Wow, if that isn’t absolute Overlordship, we don’t know what is. Anyway, it’s for now set for a September 2009 release, but more details are said to be revealed at the up and coming GC Leipzig, so stay tuned for that.
