EA: Standalone Rock Band mic not compatible with Wii

 Electronic Arts has sent word that the standalone Rock Band mic currently in circulation will not work on the Wii. The confusion appears to have stemmed from the mic’s packaging, which indicated that it was also compatible with the Nintendo system. Details follow in the full article.

As some guys probably noticed during their last visit to their local Best Buy retailer, there’s a Rock Band microphone peripheral that’s readily available for purchasing.

What made this 50-dollar accessory all the more interesting is that its packaging indicated that aside from the PS3 and Xbox 360, it would also be run on a Wii.

Now if you were hoping to grab this mic for your next round of High School Musical bouts, you may want to reconsider: Electronic Arts is sending out word that the Wii-compatibility note is a misprint. Quoting a company spokesman regarding the matter:

Our packaging mistakenly states that the microphone is compatible with the Wii. Unfortunately, this is not the case and will be corrected in future versions of the packaging. We apologize for the confusion.

Most odd – does this mean there’s going to be a separate microphone for the company’s upcoming Rock Band game for the Wii? We’ll let you know if we receive any more information regarding this matter.
