GDC 2007: Super Paper Mario cutting out some skills

Paper cuts were never this fun. It looks like the now-2D-now-3D Super Paper Mario title coming out for the Wii is set to redefine how we see side-scrollers. And to make it even more refreshing to see, you’d not only be switching between the spatial X, Y, and Z planes, but also change your characters from time to time. After all, each of them do have unique abilities.

Here’s a video from the GDC of the Characters Skills Gameplay. The video features Bowser and Peach doing their own thing during the start, but mostly you’ve got Mario showing off some Pixl power. This will also serve as another tutorial to help you acquaint yourself with the whole 2D-3D aspect, as switching views will always leave you with different results.
