Media Create report from November 24 to 30 – PS3 back in the game
It’s been another week, so let’s take a look at how our platforms are doing on the Japanese markets, once again care of Media Create. The hardware chart shows strong performance this time around, with the PS3 getting a sales boost. Note that this sales strength cannot be attributed to Black Friday – they don’t have that in Japan.
Finally, some good news! Hardware sales picked up last week, with the DSi still on top with 87,185. The Wii’s still king of the consoles, selling 49,848 units, an increase from the previous week’s 35,298. But that’s nothing compared to the PS3’s success, doubling from 17,436 in the previous week to 34,978 last week.
Note that when I say “previous week,” I mean November 17-24, and these are stats from last week, November 24-30. Just to be clear.
Even the PS2 did well. Just when you thought that everyone had a PS2 by now, it gets a slight jump from 5,281 to 5,628. The PSP didn’t do so hot last week, falling to 55,090, from the previous week’s 61,226. After doing great on November 17-24, the Xbox 360 falls from 15,474 to 11,423. Yes, Xbox 360 didn’t go three-to-one on the PS3 in Japan.
Let’s not forget that this sales burst isn’t due to Black Friday – they don’t have that in Japan. This is just pure, unBlack-Friday-ed holiday splurge.
