Vanguard Comes Of Age

Some have commented that the majority of MMO’s are little more than empty environments and a lot of pretty pictures. If you were one of them, you should be pleasantly surprised by the upcoming MMO title Vanguard: Sage of Heroes, which is currently in closed beta testing.
Among other things, this Vanguard – which the developers are pushing to release this coming winter – will feature mounted airborne combat, large and dangerous creatures (including seductive vampiresses in skimpy outfits), and characters who will be able to control the weather.
Speaking of weather and environments, we’re told that there have been some major advancements. Water will actually reflect sunlight and moonlight (see above screenshot), and gamers will be able to see stormfronts moving in. (The latter is significant, because some character-classes will have powers whose potency will be affected by different climates.)
One bit of interesting news that came out at E3 is that Vanguard will be published by Sony Entertainment, not Sigil’s usual partner, Microsoft. “Over time, it became clear that [Microsoft wasn’t] the right partner,” said Brad McQuaid, one of Sigil’s co-founders.
Editor’s Note: An earlier posting of this article incorrectly inferred that Vanguard had already been released and was awaiting an expansion pack addition. This is untrue as the core game of Vanguard has yet to be available to the public. We apologize for any confusion this might have caused.
