Oh, CliffyB must be quite happy today. (Understatement!) The numbers are in, folks: over its launch weekend, Gears of War 2 has managed to sell two million copies worldwide! Here’s Cliff Bleszinski commenting on the launch of his baby, via press release:
We were so excited to launch ‘Gears of War 2’ on the same day all around the world, something virtually unheard of in the games business. We wanted our fans, no matter where they live, to have a shared experience on day one, and that’s exactly what’s happened.
Meanwhile, if you want some more numbers (by the millions, mind), here’s the sich – all numbers were taken from GoW2‘s opening weekend – Friday to Sunday:
- 2 million units sold worldwide
- over 1.5 million people logged into XBL to play
- about 15 million gameplay hours among all users
- 19 million Achievements unlocked (collectively)
- GoW2 sets new record for most concurrent XBL players
That’s all well and good – especially for an exclusive. Numbers like these are somewhat ho-hum for multi-platform releases like the Lego games (spammed through the entire spectrum of platforms and what not), but for an exclusive, that’s quite a feat.
