Epic Games Store goes lived for phone users in the EU

Epic Games Store
The Epic Games Store is now available in the European Union. This allows iPhone users to download games directly from their iPhone, without having to go through the App Store. Epic Games has finally succeeded in bringing an online storefront to the App Store after a lengthy and expensive legal fight over payments, rival app storefronts and notarization issues. The Epic Games Store is a competitor to the App Store. It went live on Friday. The Epic Games Store launches with a selection games, including Fortnite Sideswipe and Fall Guys. Epic Games Store will soon be launching more games, as it plans to allow developers to launch their games and apps via the storefront. Epic will also bring its games to independent mobile storefronts such as AltStore PAL. Epic mentions in its announcement that only EU users will be allowed to install the Epic Games Store, and its content. Epic acknowledges that the Digital Markets Act made it possible for Fortnite and Epic Games Store to be available in Europe. However, Epic states that Apple “still blocks all other iOS users outside Europe from accessing Fortnite or Epic Games Store on iOS.” Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games, said that the tide is turning. The mobile ecosystem is now open to competition. “We are grateful for the European Commission’s support in launching the Epic Games Store, which allows us to offer our games to iOS customers in the European Union.” Sweeney says that “the battle is far from being over” but adds that “the store’s launch represents tangible progress for consumers and developers who can benefit from choice and competition.”
