ESRB invades PSP Go

SCEA has announced that they have teamed up with the US ratings board in order to educate consumers more about ratings, in the process helping consumers make a more informed choice. In order to do this, they have included an ESRB app on your handheld.
Don’t worry though. If you don’t want it on your PSP Go, you can just delete it. Jeff Rubenstein said so himself. Which, if you think about it, actually only makes the whole practice moot. Why put an application on the handheld which the customers will have the option of deleting later on (when it’s supposed to be for education), as opposed to just letting the app be made available to those who’d want to actually get it and use it in the first place?
Then again, we are not one to question the validity of this move. Because admittedly, it is a good move. I reckon that at this point, it’s better to put it in there automatically so that parents who are not familiar with the gaming world will at least be made aware that there is such a thing as the ESRB after all, once they buy their kids this gadget.
As to how effective this method of “educational program” will be, that’s what we’ll have to see. Off the top of my head, though, it won’t be the hottest commodity out there.
