Europe loves Konami…and football
Veteran third-party publisher Konami also posted their Q3 2009 financial report earlier, segregating the sales by region. And wouldn’t you know it, for two years running, the publisher has seen the more patronage from Europe than in the United States and its home base, Japan.

All in all, Konami has sold 3.36 million games in the US and 5.17 million in Japan from April to December of 2009. During that period, 6.73 million games were sold in Europe, bringing the counter up to two years that Europe has led Konami sales. A sizable chunk of the large sales Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, which sold 6.96 million copies in those nine months.
Next to their soccer games, the “other” games category hoarded the most number of sales, with a variety of titles featuring animated TV shows, music games, and baseball.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is still on the boards, and despite Old Snake’s aging back, still sold enough copies to help bring the Metal Gear category to 650,000 games sold. That’s quite a drop from the 4.5 million sold last year, but without a 2009 follow-up, the drastic slide is expected.
