EVE Online fleet combat delights and new features

You're not alone anymore.

Yes space-faring commanders, this just in, straight from Dan Fortier’s interview with CCP’s Huni “TomB” Hinrichsen: EVE Online adds organization to your combat strategies for more team-oriented fun. The game, hailed as the best MMO game of 2006, upgrades your options for fleet combat strategies.

First off, the game now sports a much more robust gang grouping system in order to subdivide your fleet into more functional units, such as logistic support and electronic warfare specialists. Fleet commanders under a gang may now have a specific number of members under their command, giving their much-needed bonuses only to those members.

Because of the new system, server performance is sure to be much better, now that gang bonuses won’t have to be recalculated as often whenever a new gang member appears in a star system where a big number of his gang reside.

Also, communication now includes a broadcast option in order to update the fleet and its commander of events happening in the battle. Gang members can see their other brothers-in-arms who are communicating to them in the same star system.

Aside from solving server performance issues and group combat dynamics for Revelations, there are many other improvements slated for the next installment (yes, Revelations II is in the works) including more group-oriented tasks and activities and multi-channel voice communication features that lets the commander stand out from the rest of the fleet over battle chatter.

Oh yes. We will be watching for it.
