Everquest II: What’s New in Echoes of Faydwer
Since a lot of folks have been wondering what’s coming in the soon-to-be-released Everquest II expansion Echoes of Faydwer, the design supervisor for this expansion, Akil Hooper, was good enough to let folks take a “peek under the hood.”
First of all, will the Fae have the power of flight? Hooper says no, but adds “…we do want to give them other benefits of having wings.” Sorry – you lost me there. What other benefits are there? Oh well…
The return of the gods, however, will be “directly tied to the action of the players,” as well as the introduction of the Fae and events in Fallen Dynasty. Speaking of gods, it was announced at E3 2006 that players would be able to convert from one religion to another. As in real life, this is going to be a complicated issue in Faydwer:
“Right now the current plan is to set them back as if they had never picked their first religion. If they’ve hurt their faction with their second religion they will probably have a longer road to travel until they are forgiven and their new deity is willing to accept them.”
Well, at least there won’t be holy wars and burnings of heretics (hopefully).
Regarding the adornment system, these are to be created via tradeskills. There are no plans to drop many of them, though some components may be. Overall, however, it should be simpler than it was in the original game.
Finally, there is the matter of horse mounts – new ones are on their way. These promise to move more realistically, and potentially enhance their riders’ abilities, but the final details have not quite been hammered out.
In any event, Faydwer promises to be an interesting expansion for a unique virtual world.
