Fallout 3 to be at least half the size of Oblivion

Pete Hines talks about Fallout 3's size - Image 1Oblivion was a massive game, filled with people, places and experiences for the intrepid gamer to explore. Of course, Fallout 3 probably won’t be a slouch in the experience department, but it begs the question, “How big will the world of Fallout 3 be?”

Well, Bethesda‘s Peter Hines has an answer for us, and we think you guys will enjoy what  he has to say about the size of game world. More after the jump!

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
(PC, Xbox 360, PS3) was made famous by its massive scope, coupled with a huge game world for people. With Fallout 3 (PS3, PC, Xbox 360) on the horizon, it becomes obvious that comparisons will be made, especially in terms of the size of the game world. Luckily, we’ve just been assured that, while the game world for Fallout 3 won’t be as big as Oblivion’s, it’ll still be huge, with a ton of stuff to do in the game world.

Pete Hines, Bethesda Studios’ VP of Marketing, explains it best:

WeÂ’ve never bothered to walk across the world, but itÂ’s between 50 to 80 percent of the size of Oblivion. ItÂ’s designed to feel like what the capitalÂ’s wasteland should feel like – a post-apocalyptic world where people scratch out an existence in these settlements – as opposed to Oblivion where it was the capital province at the height of the reign of this empire, with big bustling cities. ItÂ’s a change in scope and focus in whatÂ’s going on in this world.

With interesting locales such as the aptly named Vault 69, a living space comprised of 999 women and one man, and Vault 101, a vault that was never meant to be opened, you can be sure that the game will have its fair share of adventure and exploration. Let’s all just hope we see a demo for the game, shall we?
