Fan working on feature-length Sonic film, releases trailer

Sonic the Hedgehog - Image 1 Sonic fans are a dedicated lot. No matter the depths recent Sonic games have sunk to, they’re still there, waiting for the spiky speedster to race back into glory. There are also the very few who take their dedication to new heights — fans like Rich Kuta, who is actually making a feature-length animated Sonic film.

Yeah, it seems a bit impossible at first glance, but apparently Kuta’s been trying to get this project off the ground for several years now. According to him, there was even a solid deal with Universal at one point. That deal fell through, but he soldiered on and, with his own money, managed to release this trailer:

Kuta plans to release the film sometime in 2011 for free, just in time for Sonic’s 20th anniversary. The project is still at the storyboarding stage, so there’s still a lot of work to be done. They already have an animation studio lined up, though. Still, all that might never even come to pass if Sega decides to do a Square Enix and starts sending out the C&Ds.
