After delaying it for a couple of months, Koei has finally confirmed a concrete release date for its gravity-defying racing Fatal Inertia. However, we guess the original plan of having a simultaneous release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 no longer stands as the confirmation, which was done via a press release, specifically mentioned Microsoft‘s console.

It seems that Koei Senior VP Amos Ip couldn’t wait as he mentioned, “Armed with an eclectic variety of weapons and racing challenges, plus elegant and intuitive driver controls, Fatal Inertia is quite simply bringing high-speed fun and excitement back to the combat racing genre.”

Speaking about features, the title sports a lot of new improvements that will leave fans gushing. One such example is Fatal Inertia‘s customize feature that allows players to modify each ship to compliment their gameplay style. Lead Game Designer Michael Bond added:

Designing Fatal Inertia‘s gameplay around a physics engine helped us create dynamic weapons with multiple tactical applications. We’ve based many of the game’s weapons on straightforward physical principles, and by doing so we’re giving players the freedom to come up with their own creative ways of using them.

While waiting for September 11 and the release date confirmation for the PS3 version, here are new Fatal Inertia screenshots for both platforms.
