FFXIII showed good sales on Xbox 360
The latest figures from the NPD Group reveal that Final Fantasy XIII has sold 1,322,000 units in the United States – no suprises there, given the strength of Square Enix and its Final Fantasy brand. What’s interesting here is that despite the game being a PS3-exclusive in Japan, the North American Xbox 360 version still held its own against the competitor.

Of the 1,322,000 units sold, the PS3 accounts for 828,200, showing that a lot of players still love their FF on a PlayStation. The Xbox 360 version pulled in 493,900, which is 60% of what the PS3 version sold. It’s likely that Square Enix would consider the Microsoft platform for another Final Fantasy, though the PlayStation name still commands the majority of the sales.
As it is, Final Fantasy XIV will not be released for the Xbox 360, and neither will the other two tales in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series – Versus XII is PS3-only and Agito XIII goes to the PSP. Furthermore, by the time a Final Fantasy XV comes along, it might be too far down the road for the Xbox 360’s lifespan.
In any case, it will no longer be surprising to see that Final Fantasy will go to non-PlayStation platforms, given the strength the brand has shown on the Xbox 360.
