Fighting Fantasy RPG books coming to iPhone, iPod Touch later this year
Before he became the president of Eidos, Ian Livingstone co-created the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, a series of single-player fantasy adventure books similar to the Choose Your Own Adventure series. Those who’ve come across and experienced these gamebooks will be pleased to know that the series will soon become available as iPhone and iPod Touch games later this year beginning with the first book, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain.
Before he became the president of Eidos, Ian Livingstone co-created the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, a series of single-player fantasy adventure books similar to the Choose Your Own Adventure series. What set it apart is that it actually used a dice system to resolve combat and other situations.
Those who’ve come across and experienced these gamebooks will be pleased to know that the series will soon become available as iPhone and iPod Touch games later this year beginning with the first book, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain. This was confirmed by Livingstone in a recent episode of the One Life Left podcast.
“IÂ’m happy to say, because of the advances in technology, thereÂ’s been recurring interest,” he said. “Not just from the book publishers… but from iApp people who are saying, ‘Why donÂ’t you put these Fighting Fantasy game books onto an iApp.Â’ And we thought, ‘Great idea.’”
Livingstone revealed that the gameplay on the Apple devices will mostly be similar to the way the books themselves are played. Except, you know, you’re playing on a touchscreen-equipped device instead of reading through a book. They’ll also make use of the iPhone and iPod Touch accelerometers to roll dice.
No hard release dates were mentioned, but Livingstone said that he’s “quite confident in saying that sometime later on this year thereÂ’ll be Fighting Fantasy adventures on [iPhone and iPod Touch].”
