Fils-Aime: Wii to surpass Xbox 360 installed base

Reggie - Image 1During D.I.C.E., Dean Takahashi was able to speak to President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, Reginald Fils-Aime. It was revealed that the Nintendo executive believes that it wouldn’t be surprising if by around next year the sales of the Wii surpasses the installed base of Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

Reggie says that it’s a question of when. He expounds:

That’s going to be driven by our own sales rate and getting good software released at the right time. It’s clear they are slowing down. It’s not unthinkable to see that next year we could surpass their installed base

In a recent Famitsu survey asking which console was played most in Japan during the holidays, Wii took first spot, followed by the DS. Third place was occupied by the PS2, and the Xbox 360 ranks fourth. The PSP is at fifth.

But that’s what people are playing in Japan. If you want to get an idea of sales, you could head to our recent report on Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter for his take on Wii sales.
