Tetsuya Nomura, director and character designer for Square Enix, revealed details about two of the characters from Final Fantasy Versus 13. Their names were revealed during TGS – Noctis Lucis Caelum and Stella Nox Fleuret.

Sound familiar? It’s pretty common in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series to have latin names. Noctis Lucis Caelum means “night, light, sky,” while Stella Nox Fleuret means “star, darkness, sword.” Stella is also from a country whose name means “darkness.”

Nomura also revealed details on the personality of the two. Stella is the strong-willed, yet sensitive princess from the Fleuret family (strongly reminiscent of Garnet, Yuna, and Ashe). Noctis, on the other hand, appears to be the cold, silent type, just like Cloud and Squall. The two have the ability to see light (don’t we all?), which doesn’t sound much as of now, but we’ll be enlightened (no pun intended) as we find out more about the plot.

From their names, personalities, and their common ability, it sounds like the plot will involve the light-dark duality. Apart from the plot, no details on gameplay have been given either, but speculations based on the screenshots were confirmed to be in real time. Hopefully, when we next hear about Final Fantasy Versus 13, we’ll have tidbits on plot and gameplay.
