Final Fantasy XI’s Vana’diel Braces For The Feast of Swords
Square Enix is once again calling for help – no, they don’t need developers (or EA to buy them out). What they need is a few worthy heroes to stand up and heed the call of Final Fantasy’s virtual world Vana’diel. As the popular MMORPG’s event, dubbed as ‘Feast of Swords’ draws near, the paranoia of many citizens multiplied, thus the brewing obstacle to boil some more.
The Feast of Swords has been a festival of Far Easterners to celebrate their sons’ healthy growth by gearing up banners brandishing an image of an enormous fish with the male aspirants wrapped in armor made for mock fights. While the battles were fully symbolical, chaos has ensued the last time this ritual was observed.
History has it that the last Feast of Swords become a setting of the robbery of a priceless armor the Mog House Management Union (M.H.M.U.) borrowed from the Far East. Although the armor was later retrieved by a few worthy individuals, the feast’s security was forever tarnished. Thus the (sane or out of hand?) fear of its citizens provided an unexpected fuel to the soon-to-be discovered problem.

Once again, the legendary armor was borrowed from the Genji family. Extra measures were taken this time including the transport of the valuable item porvided by a disguised Aht Urhgan trading vessel to avoid attacks. The deed, while obviously done in good faith, produced immense setbacks as it attracted the greed of Near Eastern pirates lead by one named Barracuda Myu. The pirates, thinking that the trading vessel was carrying Aht Urghan weapons, followed it religously hoping to capture it when the right time struck – and it did.
After the attack of the pirates, defeat was almost imminent, good thing (well that’s debatable) the Federal Forces of Windurst arrived to provide assistance. Once again, the prudent action backfired as the crew of Myu became desperate and used the priceless treasure as a hostage to complete their escape – they felt that no one would dare assault them in fear of losing or ruining the armor.
Thus the moogles delivered a plea to all willing adventurers (with Lupin-like capabilities) to aid them in the retrieval of the oft-stolen treasure. Kupelcian, the master carpenter, has once again devised weapons specifically molded to inflict no damage to the armor. (Armors are supposed to be invincible right? Oh well.) If you previously thought you should have been casted in Ocean Eleven, then you might be the one they need. Weave the wooden katana and join this quest by:
-Speaking to an event moogle in one of the three main nations to receive a lotus katana.
-Once you have a wooden katana or a lotus katana, speak to a nomad moogle to participate in the event.
-While participating in the event, you will be restricted to level 1, but your movement speed will increase. Please note that any equipment that you are wearing that is for level 2 or higher will automatically be removed.
-You cannot attack or be attacked by regular monsters during the event.
The pirate rounding is set to begin tomorrow (April 27) at 17:00. You’ll only have until 0:00 of May 11 to participate in this rat race. Go ahead children of Vana’diel, fulfill your role of providing security to your country.
