If a recent report is to be believed, Microsoft seems to be stockpiling top game industry talent to prep up its Gears of War sequel. A Microsoft staffer allegedly confirmed that former EA Chicago General Manager Kudo Tsunoda is aboard the MS posse.
A recent post from website Gametap suggests that Tsunoda is coming off the EA Chicago closure and is now heading the Gears of War sequel project. Said to be behind the move is Microsoft Entertainment and Devices boss Don Mattrick.
Mattrick is himself a former EA employee. He has served as one of EA Vancouver‘s top execs where he worked alongside Tsunoda for some time. Mattrick has been known to snag former EA colleagues into the Microsoft fold. One such example is former Tiburon boss and EA’s vice president of worldwide studios John Schappert.
EA Chicago is recognized for its excellent work on the Fight Night series which brought back serious quality to boxing simulations. Unfortunately, the studio wasn’t able to cough up profits, forcing EA to dismantle it.
EA Chicago was formerly known as NuFX, a studio that has worked closely with EA Sports for the creation of the NBA Live series back in the 16-bit days. Its employees were either given nice separation packages or reassignments after the break-down.
