Epic Games Store is set to launch on iPhone in the EU, but Epic has announced that its games will also be available at alternative app stores like AltStore PAL. These alternative app stores “give developers an excellent deal” and are “a great place for developers to sell their apps.” Apple and Epic’s battle may never end. The latest chapter is unfolding around EU regulations such as the Digital Markets Act. Epic can bring Fortnite to iPhones in the EU now that third-party apps and sideloading are available. Epic Games Store is already in the works for iOS and Android devices. But that’s not where Fortnite will end up on iPhone. Epic has also announced it will distribute its apps on third-party stores. The blog post explained that Epic would end distribution partnerships with mobile store that act as “rent collectors,” in favor of stores who offer developers a “great bargain.” This means that the Samsung Galaxy Store will be replaced by stores such as the AltStore PAL. AltStore is the distributor of Delta, the Nintendo emulator which helped pioneer the use of emulators on iPhones in and outside the EU. Fortnite’s return to iPhone was long overdue. Tim Sweeney had promised a 2023 release, but now it’s expected to be by the end 2024. Fortnite’s return follows years of legal battles in the United States between Apple and Epic. Epic has managed to bypass Apple’s in app purchase system in the EU, despite Apple winning on almost all fronts.
