Fox News Uncovers PSPorn

pspThis is one news item we’re sure a lot of kids hope their folks won’t see, but we’ll feature it here anyway. Kids have found a new use for the PSP – to gain access to porn. One student was grounded for a month and received in-school suspension when he was caught showing off his new found application for his PSP.

In the school’s library the student showed his friends how the PSP could surf adult websites via the school’s wireless internet connection. He says he learned the trick from other PSP-owning kids. Meanwhile, a 14-year old boy in North Dakota got a harsher punsihment for pulling the same stunt. Local authorities charged him with a felony.

Loading porn on PSP is so popular the once-innocent device had earned a new nickname: Play Station “Pornable.” As it turns out, Fox 9 News found that there are a growing number of porn sites that specifically caters for the PSP. And no, we’re not telling you which ones they are. The site, according to the owners, are not targetting kids because there’s no money to make there. They did admit, however, that they have no way of knowing if children are among the 90,000 visitors logging on to their site every month. “We really don’t know their ages, or their gender,” they said.

As expected, backlash from PSPorn is also on the rise. David Walsh of the National Institute on Media and the Family said “parents are discovering that some of their teenagers are not just curious… but are deeply into pornography.” He urged parents to keep up with the technology kids are using. Some schools are considering beefing the security on their wireless internet connections.

Sony, the maker of the PSP,  told Fox News that parents should be responsible for monitoring the content their children are viewing, but Walsh insists game makers have a responsibility too. Like informing parents that their product could give a kid easy access to pornography.
